OysterClan is a fanmade clan. The premise is a clan that lives next to the sea shore.
Details:
OysterClan’s territory is a large swath of rocky beach, with some meadows above. These areas can be hard to access for less experienced apprentices and such, since the paths are steep and hard to climb.
Dens are small caves in the cliff face. Some of the larger dens, such as the warrior’s den, are split into multiple caves if needed.
Their diet is mainly fish and shellfish from tide pools, and some more common prey from the meadows above.
The moonpool/moonstone equivalent is the StarCave. It gains its name from the star-like salt crystals that lines the walls. The cave is inaccessible during high tide, as it fills up with water. Guides study the patterns of water and salt crystals to see portents.
OysterClan believes that they live in the oceans as eels when they die, as opposed to believing in StarClan. Eating an eel results in a harsh punishment, with the specifics traditionally decided by the guide, and is believed to bring extremely bad luck to the clan. Small sacrifices in the forms of shells, prey, and certain herbs are left near tide pools to deceased loved ones, often to bring luck to a sick cat or pregnant mother. Taking an offering is thought to bring the wrath of whatever spirit the offering was left to onto you.
OysterClan handles the role of medicine cat a little differently. The role is split into two separate roles, a healer, and a guide. The healer handles physical injuries or sickness, while the guide communicates with the dead, helps choose warrior names for apprentices, carries on traditions, and advises the leader. The healer is trained in an apprenticeship, while the guide is chosen from the elder’s den (Or warrior’s den, if no elders are available or suitable).
The Warrior Code: OysterClan does not have a warrior code in the same way that the four clans do, especially since many relate to dealings with other clans. The leader may change whatever rules they want to, but the guide, council of elders (the three oldest elders), and the healer can veto any new rules. However, some rules apply across leaders, and would be nearly impossible to change without widespread discontent. They are:
-Kits may not start training until they are at least four moons old, and should start training before they are eight moons old (decided on an individual basis).
-The guide is chosen from the elders den, by the elders. If no elders are suitable, then the new guide is chosen from the senior warriors. If the council of elders cannot agree, then the leader will act as a tiebreaker.
-If a leader dies before a deputy can be chosen, then the council of elders and guide will work together to choose a new leader. A new leader or deputy can also be chosen in this fashion if the current leader and/or deputy proves to not be a good choice. If this ‘forced retirement’ happens, then the cat will resume their normal duties, and cannot become the deputy or leader again.
Herbs (In Progress):
Plantain - Used as a salve for insect bites and stings, cuts, scrapes, and burns, as well as being used for stomach aches (with varied success). Very abundant in the meadow part of the territory, especially near the paths frequented by two-legs.
Ginger - Found occasionally in two-leg gardens, this herb is commonly used for stomach aches, nausea, and upset stomachs. Ginger is also used for coughs and mild fevers.
Cedar - Cedar branches and needles are commonly placed in nests to repel fleas. Some cats will swear by this, other think of it as a mere superstition. A small pile of cedar branches or needles are traditionally placed in front of the entrance to the healer’s den and nursery, which is thought to bring health to the injured, sick, and new kittens.
Coneflower - Coneflowers, sometimes found in the meadow territory, are used to treat colds and flus.
Thyme - Thyme is often used to treat weight loss and diarrhea. This often doesn’t work, but does work on occasion. Thyme can be found in the meadow, particularly near the paths that two-legs frequent.
Agrimony - Agrimony is given to cats suffering from stress and anxiety. It is found in the plains above the beach, mostly near the edge of the territory.
Relations With Other Cats: CaveClan’s policy on outsiders tends to depend on their leadership. They do tend to be reluctant to let outsiders in, though, since they usually have nowhere near the swimming skill and other abilities needed.
Rules:
1. Normal RP rules - no godmodding, overpowered characters, etc
2. Please no male tortoiseshells or calicos
3. Mentors and such are decided by me or the leader, unless you have a specific request.
4. In this canon, supernatural entities do not exist. If you want your guide (or other cat) to see an omen, please ask permission. Whether or not said omen comes true is another matter entirely.
