The original roleplay was created on the Wings of Fire forum in the summer of 2018. It was the first roleplay that VictoriousQueen88 ever created, and it holds a special place in her heart. Though it died long ago, she's rebooting it on this site, because she felt that a rather large roleplay like this would get everyone pumped and ready to use these forums.
Some credit for this must go to Obsidian the IceWing on the Wings of Fire Wiki; though the original wasn't based on their RP Dragon Riders, it has a very similar concept and I read all the way through it when I first discovered the wiki. I forgot it existed by the time I created The Dragon Tamers (the original title).
I wanted this to happen before Dragonslayer came out, and due to this, there would soon be a set format for scavenger OCs put into place.
intro isn't the best, but at least I got the point across?
Too good to be true.
That's what you thought as you opened the pale gold envelope, the parchment wafting off a sweet smell like that of a new book. Hands shaking, you held up the letter, read over it, and promptly let your jaw drop. Calling your family members over, you read the words written there over and over again, trying to make sure this isn't a dream.
Dear [your name here],
You have been cordially invited to attend Talon Academy of Dragon Riding. In early fall, please take the train from Ebridale Station to the academy, where the teachers will greet you and give you the tour. You will also have your belongings sent to your dorm upon arrival, so please refrain from worrying about those. You'll also be matched to your dragon on the first day of the new school year.
We are excited and wait for your reply and possible arrival.
Sincerely,
The Staff of Talon Academy
You're shaking. Talon Academy is an infamous, prestigious school high in the mountains, where only the most intelligent, bravest, and worthy students attend. Though dragons may rule your continent now, this academy is bringing forth the amazing tradition of riding dragons, and has been doing so for the past fifty years. To be invited to study here is a great honor, and those who graduate might as well be gods in the eyes of most scavengers.
And you?
Well, you're going to go to Talon Academy! You're going to ride a dragon! You're going to have the best time of your life! Nothing could ever go wrong!
But, of course, that last one's not true--and you're on one wild ride because of it.
Captured.
You're a dragon, of course. Whether you were flying over the shining Sea Kingdom, foraging through the Rainforest Kingdom, hunting for food, or just trying to protect your family, you were kidnapped--surrounded, all of a sudden, by scavengers who attacked you. You tried to use your natural weapons, but they injected you with fluids that made your firebreath/frostbreath/venom weak, forcing you to be drowsy, and tied you down to the cold, hard dirt below with ropes the cut into your sides and left awful bruises. Somehow, after those blasted little creatures wrestled you to the ground, you were knocked unconscious.
You awoke, battered but not yet broken, on a metal floor, staring at the stripes shadows left by the bars of a cage. Sitting up, you stared around to realize you were trapped in a room of some sort--a tower, built to a smaller scale than dragons use, with a glass ceiling allowing you to squint at the gray sky. Chains looped around your back ankles, and the most movement possible was simply spreading your wings and shuffling to the front of the cage, which faced what appeared to be a small walkway and another cage like your own.
Obviously, you're horrified--who wouldn't be, when they're captured? Just as you open your mouth to communicate with the other dragons, however, large wooden doors at one end of the tower open, and in walk several scavengers. You try to scream, try to say something, but before you can, they've poured food through a tube into a trough inside your cage and left. It's not even good food; you're pretty sure this isn't even a good quality cow/fruit.
Soon, after either screaming to be set free or trying to escape, you're lying down in your metal cage again, head down, tired out of your mind from all that trying to escape. Though you don't trust this place at all, you somehow wind up closing your eyes "just to rest for a moment", but you're soon dreaming. And that knocks any thought in your mind that this is a horrible dream away.
Of course, that's nowhere near the end of it; things will get much, much worse.
Plot
If the above text didn't give it away, ten scavengers (ranging from ages twelve to eighteen) have been chosen to attend Talon Academy of Dragon Riding, which is a school for scavengers nestled high in the northern Sky Kingdom, on the very tip of the "wing" of Pyrrhia. It's been up and running for about fifty years, and every year, a new crop of students are recruited to attend.
By sharp contrast, a group of ten dragons, one from each tribe, have been kidnapped to serve as "steeds" for the new students. Each dragon will be assigned to a student, though that doesn't mean, by any chance, that the dragons are happy about the situation.
If you're curious, the dragons for graduated students are either taken as pets by the graduates, released into the wild (by the owners, of course; the school probably wouldn't risk harming the ecosystem with a dragon who forgot how to dragon), or they might actually escape. The teachers' dragons stay with the teachers.
The students who are already here probably won't have much significance, though if you ask after all the other new recruits are filled, I won't stop you from making a character who is one.
Rules
School Layout
To tell the truth, the school looks almost like a castle. With tall towers and gray brick walls, as well as spiraling staircases leading up, up, up and a rather fancy, luxurious garden, it almost seems to come out of a dream. Here are the basic rooms.
Entry Hall
When one walks through the large oak doors to enter, a high, arched ceiling and a long hallway to the other rooms greets them. It's warmly lit, with dark wooden flooring and a gold chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Tapestries detailing myths, legends, history, and other intricate scenes hang from the walls. They're woven in shimmering, glistening thread, and are very detailed. A long, red velvet rug stretches from one end of the hallway to the other.
Multiple large, arched wooden doors litter the walls of the hallway. These include doors to the Great Hall, multiple staircases, classrooms, other halls, and (eventually) the outside.
Great Hall
This is where students, teachers, and guests eat. Its layout is a bit like that of the Great Hall in Hogwarts (from Harry Potter), and multiple dark oak wood tables stretch from one end of the room to the other. Banners and tapestries hang from the walls, and torches, high on the walls, give light. Other light filters through the high, arched stained glass ceiling, and the weather can be checked by simply glancing up due to this. Like in all parts in the school, wooden dark oak planks are used as the flooring.
Candles sit in the center of all the rectangular tables, giving off light. Teachers sit in the table nearest to the left wall, whereas students sit at the other two.
Library
One of the largest rooms in the school, this room has an extremely high ceiling and very tall dark oak bookshelves, where just about every book on every subject you can imagine can be found. The back right corner of the room has several large tan couches, where one can curl up and read. The librarian's desk sits near the door.
Classrooms
All of these are unique in their own way, though most have multiple dark oak tables with matching chairs for the students to sit in while they watch the teacher. A dark oak desk with a matching chair--slightly larger than those of the students--sits in the right corner. Shelves of supplies related to whatever subject is being taught litter the room.
Dorms
These rooms are at the top of the two tallest towers. We'll focus on five in total.
The dorm rooms are circular, with tan painted walls. Rather large, arched windows give a breathtaking view of the whole school and the land around it. A bunk bed, headboard against the wall, is where the dormmates sleep. Dark oak chests of drawers hold the belongings of the students who live in the room. A door on one side leads to a bathroom. Dorm may be decorated with pictures, rugs, and other additions as the students see fit.
Each dorm can fit two students.
Stables
Quite possibly the most interesting part of the academy, the dragons are kept in a building just outside the back of the school, which is shaped like an oversized stable. It greatly resembles this image, lighting and all, although the stalls are replaced with similarly shaped cages. The Dragon Riding teacher has a small office near the large, arched oak door, which contains a large oak desk and a matching chair. There's a slightly smaller matching chair in front of the desk, for those who came to the office to speak with the teacher. A huge corral circles the stables, with glass making a dome over it. This is where the dragons are to be ridden.
Lounge
Most students favor the lounge, which is a room in the middle of the school that is designed to keep students entertained during free time. Comfortable chairs, couches, multicolored bean bag chairs, fluffy rugs, and dark oak coffee tables litter this large room. The ceiling is high and has a gold chandelier hanging from it, which provides light. Magazine racks present books, newspapers, and, of course, magazines to read. The WiFi's great here.
Of course, there are many more rooms in the school, and the limit is your imagination! Is there a secret library? A hidden compartment under that trapdoor? So long as it makes at least some logical sense, all sorts of rooms litter this place.

Rules
- No cursing, unless it's Pyrrhian cursing (ie. "Frog-faced blob of camel spit!").
- Romance is allowed, but it must be kept to PG-13 levels.
- To help this start faster, I'll take most of the teachers. However, if you want a specific teacher as a character, you can have the spot. I'll only be putting in my teacher characters once everything else needed to start is taken.
- This is pretty obvious, but follow the forum rules and the RP rules.
- Four characters max. You can have one student, one student dragon, and one teacher. You may also decide to put in a dragon for your teacher. Later on, I may decide that you can have a student who isn't a first year, bringing the maximum amount up to five, but we'll have to fill the rest of the slots first.
- Your dragon won't be ridden by your student. I will use a random number generator to give each student a dragon (ie. User57's dragon is ridden by Account12's rider). This rule does not apply to teachers; if you make a teacher and a dragon specifically for a teacher to ride, your teacher will ride your (teacher) dragon. (If that was confusing: Account12 makes a teacher. Account12 makes a dragon, which they note will be ridden by a teacher. Account12's dragon is ridden by Account12's teacher.) Teachers having on-screen dragons are optional.
- The dragons belonging to the teachers are mainly off-screen, though you can bring them in every once in a while.
- To keep genders even, there will be five male students and five female students. However, non-binary characters can be used instead of male/female characters.
- There's really no gender balance rule for dragons, though it would be appreciated if genders were even.
- Scavengers are modern, though I'd prefer if they weren't constantly on their phones.
- Password is your favorite quote. This can be from a friend, a movie, a book, or even a video game.
- No animus dragons, moonborn, firescales, venomscales, icescales/frostscales, leafspeak, or flamesilk. Sorry--I just don't want the stable to burn down before the scavengers even get there.
